As the Netflix-Atresmedia relationship grows stronger, the broadcaster’s latest hit series, Fariña will be added to the international subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) catalogue.
Still pending official confirmation, several actors have confirmed through the social media that the SVOD leader will soon add Fariña’s first season to its worldwide portfolio.Produced by Bambú Producciones (Velvet) for Atresmedia, the narco series was also showcased at the latest edition of Cannes’ MIPTV aiming at international distributors.
Based on real events and characters from Nacho Carretero’s non-fiction bestseller, Fariña topped Antena 3’s prime time ratings during its two-months broadcast.
Through this move, Netflix and Atresmedia have strengthened their on-going commercial relationship. The SVOD platform has acquired several formats originally produced for the Spanish media house, including the international hit La Casa de Papel, which Netflix will continue producing in the future.
Netflix has also produced with Atresemedia, Diagonal TV and TV3 La catedral del mar, a fiction series that is currently airing on Antena 3 and will be globally distributed by Netflix.
