Indian video-on-demand platform Hungama Play has inked a deal with NBCUniversal to bring some of the Hollywood studio’s major movies to subscribers.

Other box office hits - such as Back to the Future, American Pie 2, Shrek 2, The Theory of Everything, King Kong and the first two Despicable Me films - will begin streaming over coming months.
Future titles also include action adventures The Chronicles of Riddick, Battleship, Oblivion and Incredible Hulk, along with comedies Land of the Lost and Liar Liar and horror film Ouija.
“Hungama Play always strives to provide a diverse, multi-lingual and multi-genre library of content. Our strategic content partnership with NBCUniversal will aid us in expanding our library and offer our audience a chance to experience their favourite movies in multiple languages. We are hopeful that the latest additions will introduce our viewers to content that transcends language and geography barriers,” said Siddhartha Roy, COO, Hungama Digital Media.
NBCUniversal president & chief revenue officer, global distribution and international, Belinda Menendez said: “NBCUniversal prides itself on engaging and immersive storytelling that captivates and enthrals viewers around the world. We are proud to offer our most-watched movies on Hungama Play and partner with them to make our world-class content available to a wider audience in India.”
As well as via the standalone app or website, Hungama Play is integrated with Vodafone Play, Idea Movies & TV, Airtel Xstream, the Amazon Fire TV Stick, Tata Sky Binge and Android Smart TVs. Additionally, Hungama’s partnership with Xiaomi will also enable users to watch the movies via Hungama Play on Mi TV.
