DTV technology solutions provider iWedia has entered into a partnership with NPU-enabled video SoC firm Synaptics to unveil what the companies describe as a breakthrough in the field of edge AI to measure user engagement with television content and advertisements.

The collaboration is based on using edge artificial intelligence to transform the way television audiences interact with their favourite shows and commercials and through advanced camera technology powered by OBLO Cloud technology for near real-time data collection, processing, and presentation.
By harnessing the capabilities of sensing algorithms, Synaptics' NPU-enabled video SoCs—equipped with the SyNAPT toolkit for seamless porting of AI models and workloads—and the data processing of OBLO Cloud technology, the product enables real-time analysis of viewers' reactions, emotions, and attentiveness to content. This approach, described by the companies as revolutionary, is claimed to provide broadcasters, content creators, and advertisers with unparalleled insights into audience preferences and behaviour, ultimately leading to more personalised and engaging viewing experiences.
The iWedia Engagement Measurement solution also employs camera-based technology to instantly gauge user engagement levels during TV programming and advertisements. By analysing facial expressions, body language, and other visual cues, it provides an assessment of viewer reactions.
Results of big data processing are visualised via a comprehensive dashboard with endless possibilities for customisation as well as equipped with web hooks for integration into pre-existing visualisation tools.
"We are thrilled to announce this groundbreaking collaboration with Synaptics," said iWedia chief technology officer Nikola Teslic. "Our joint efforts, combined with the power of OBLO Cloud technology, have resulted in a game-changing edge AI product that will revolutionize the way viewership is measured."
"Synaptics is excited to contribute our secure processing expertise and platform to help realize new and exciting use cases that leverage powerful edge AI capabilities coupled with integrated camera functionality in this groundbreaking collaboration," added Siddarth Chandrasekar, Sr. director of marketing and programs, multimedia SoCs, IoT Division, at Synaptics.
