Global channel and content producer Insight TV has signed an agreement with China Media Group (CMG), Film, Drama, and Documentary Programming Center (CCTV-9), to co-produce a new six-part documentary series that follows a group of athletes as they prepare for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

insightWinter Gold will give an intimate portrait of leading international athletes as they prepare for the biggest challenge of their lives across several winter sports events, including figure skating, alpine skiing and snowboarding.

The series will tell the universal story of how individuals, through sheer determination and dedication, can drive themselves to the pinnacle of their field. The series is an intimate study of athletes as they balance competition and glory with private, personal cost.

The elite athletes to feature in Winter Gold include Donovan Carrillo – figure skating (Mexico); Kai Verbij – speed skating (Netherlands); Eileen Gu – freestyle skiing (China); Alice Merryweather – alpine skiing (US); Katie Ormerod – snowboarding (UK); Mikhail Sergachev – ice hockey (Russia); and Team China of Nordic Combined – Nordic combined (China). The Insight TV crew is currently filming the series across the athletes’ home locations.

Arun Maljaars, Insight TV’s vice president of content and channels, said: “Winter Gold marks our first co-production in China and one of our most exciting series to date, as there are few bigger projects to chronicle than the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. This seminal documentary series will track the journey of six incredible athletes, blending intimate storytelling with outstanding production value.”
