Zinc Media Group’s UK factual production company Brook Lapping has confirmed global interest, spanning Europe, Latin America and the APAC region for 9/11: Life Under Attack, a documentary coinciding with the twentieth anniversary of the day that changed the modern world.
Life Under Attack 6Sep2021
Commissioned by ITV, France Télévisions, HISTORY Channel and VPRO, 9/11: Life Under Attack (1 x 90’) features previously unheard audio and images: the personal stories told by the people in New York that day who lived through the events and recorded them. Its narrative is driven exclusively by audio and footage from the day. Presented without any interviews, viewers hear what is described as new, “compelling and profoundly moving” in-the-moment accounts.

The worldwide sales, delivered by distribution partner BBC Studios, include not only France Télévisions but also ZDF in Germany; Australia (ABC); Italy (Discovery); Denmark (DR); Spain (TVE and Telefónica); Belgium (VRT); New Zealand (TVNZ); Russia (BBC News Russian); Central and Eastern Europe (AMC) and Brazil (Globo Free to Air and Globoplay SVOD).

The feature-length documentary is also said to present a unique and compelling account of 9/11 captured by ordinary people who chose to pick up their cameras and get close to the action, weaving together the personal video diaries of a dozen people whose accounts provide an unfiltered telling of events, capturing confusion, comprehension, terror and relief. The film will air on ITV on 9 September at 21:00 and the HISTORY Channel on 11 September at 10PM ET/PT.

Commenting on the sales for 9/11: Life Under Attack Zinc Media group director London television Greg Sanderson said: “This programme will serve as an important record of one of the most historic days in modern history, captured by those who were in the thick of the chaos as it unfolded. We are therefore delighted it has received such strong interest internationally. Our thorough approach to exploring the minutiae of historical events means our programmes always find audiences throughout the world, particularly those keen for definitive and authoritative reflections on the moments in history which collectively shape our lives.”

Paul Dempsey, president global distribution, BBC Studios, added: "There is global appetite for in-depth real-world accounts, so it comes as no surprise that this compelling and unique portrayal of 9/11- a historical event that continues to shape the modern world 20 years on - has received significant international interest.”

9/11: Life Under Attack was commissioned by Tom Giles at ITV, Caroline Behar at FranceTélévisionsTélévisions, Zachary G Behr and Brad Holcman at the HISTORY Channel and Nathalie Windhorst at VPRO. It is executive produced by Greg Sanderson and Karen Edwards for Brook Lapping at Zinc Media Group.
