Aiming to challenge what it calls expensive cable internet and pay-TV bundles by combining a hot spot, Wi-Fi router, TV tuner and apps in a single device, 4G and 5G fixed wireless broadband technology provider Skyboxe has received equipment authorisation from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

In addition to offering the vastly increased amount of remote workers a secure, dedicated network that isolates work-related traffic from residential, Skyboxe says that when its Skyboxe Hub 4G service launches in Autumn 2020 it will accelerate cord-cutting trend by delivering live, local broadcast TV channels and free and subscription-based video-on-demand services.

Powered by Android TV, the solution combines hardware, data connectivity, and entertainment and productivity software. It is claimed to simplify people's lives and saves them money by replacing or supplementing their traditional internet connections and by powering a plethora of use cases, including those for entertainment cord-cutters and integrated video communications.

The platform provides fixed, high-speed broadband and value-added services from a wireless carrier, rather than a traditional provider like a cable TV operator or ISP. It is designed to replace a consumer's cable modem, Wi-Fi router and TV set-top box with a wireless hub powerful that manages a home network and connected devices.

With our FCC ID in hand, we can now enter into trials with our wireless carrier partners and accelerate certifications with them as a 'BYOD' (bring your own device) that consumers will be able to purchase in the coming months," said Skyboxe CEO Jeff Allen. “With Skyboxe, businesses and consumers will be able to combine their fixed and mobile data plans together to lower their total costs."
