Enabling its subscribers to gain enhanced access to premium and niche content, the Fetch online TV service has sealed a partnership that will see the Metrological Application Platform integrated onto the Fetch platform.

Comcast-owned Metrological aims to enable operators to integrate their TV and OTT content into a single viewer experience with the cloud-based Application Platform attributed with delivering a “complete” product suite for monetisation, onboarding and managing the lifecycle of localised apps and premium OTT services on any device into one single viewer experience.

The unified TV App Store and back-office product suite is intended to enable Fetch to onboard, monetise and optimise the life cycle of apps across their set-top boxes (STBs). This says the company will support real-time response to subscribers’ changing content preferences. Fetch will deploy the Metrological Application Platform on its existing service in Australia and has secured rights for the New Zealand market. Fetch will work with Metrological and its partners to expand the available portfolio of local and international apps.

From 2021, Fetch subscribers will gain access to a range of additional apps and OTT services, complementing the apps that are already available on the service. Fetch will also be utilising the Metrological Lightning Framework to provide GPU accelerated rendering of the Fetch user interface, intending to result in noticeably smoother transitions and animations.

“The worlds of traditional broadcast TV and OTT services have collided, driven by consumers’ insatiable appetite for more and varied content,” commented Fetch TV CEO Scott Lorson. “As a master aggregator, Fetch is focused on constantly expanding our content offering and on delivering a truly integrated user experience. The partnership with Metrological enhances our ability to do both and provides a clear path for servicing the long tail of great content now available. Metrological has developed market leading technology and is clearly positioned as the world’s leading cloud-based TV application platform.”

“Fetch shares our view that during this unprecedented time, where more content is being watched than ever, providing an integrated, single viewer experience becomes even more essential,” added Metrological CEO Jeroen Ghijsen. “With the Metrological Application Platform, Fetch can seamlessly integrate OTT content into the main TV viewer experience and manage content in response to subscribers’ changing content needs, delivering an even more compelling content proposition and viewing experience.”
