The ad-supported streaming arena has another player in the form of WhaleLive from over-the-top (OTT) and smart TV services provider Zeasn.

WhaleLive is a 100% free service, and provides consumers with free access to a wide selection of news, movies, kids, music, sports and entertainment channels on Philips Smart TV platforms. It supports functions such as video playback and video-on-demand and in the near future will release a series of new updates such as personalised recommendations, live programme guides, parental controls and advertising optimisation.

The service will be available initially in the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It is planned to roll out to other countries or regions over the coming weeks. WhaleLive is one of the core services from Whale Eco, which will be integrated with other Whale Eco TV brand customers. To date the Whale Eco platform has reached over 30 million monthly active users worldwide, with the newly launched WhaleLive, the number is expected to increase even more. It is expected that by the end of this year, millions of smart TVs consumers can access WhaleLive on their TV portal.

Zeasn believes that with WhaleLive it is bringing a new easy way for its content partners to be onboard and monetise their diverse content. “We are absolutely thrilled to offer WhaleLive to our users around the world,” commented chief technology officer Raymond Chung.
