Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s acclaimed Fleabag series will form part of a package that independent distributor all3media international will bring to Japan in new deals with pay-TV channel Wowow and Tohokushinsha Film Corporation.

The deals will see three scripted series from multi-award-winning production company Two Brothers Pictures making their debut in the territory.
Wowow has signed both 6 x 30’ seasons of breakout hit Fleabag, a bittersweet confessional of a woman trying to make sense of the world, written by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge and produced for BBC Three and Amazon Prime Video. The series also stars Olivia Colman, Hugh Dennis, Bill Paterson, Hugh Skinner, Brett Gelman and Sian Clifford and has received huge acclaim around the world, including multiple Primetime Emmys.
The deal also includes the first 6 x 60’ season of the tense and gripping thriller Liar starring Joanne Froggatt and Ioan Gruffudd. Written by Harry and Jack Williams and produced for ITV and AMC, Liar tells the story of a night that changes the lives of two people forever – examining both sides of a relationship and both sides of the truth. A second series of Liar is set for UK launch.
Tohokushinsha Film Corporation is to give drama thriller Baptiste (6 x 60’) its debut in Japan. Produced for BBC One and also written by Harry and Jack Williams, Baptiste sees Tchéky Karyo reprise his The Missing role as insightful but stubborn investigator Julien Baptiste, who returns to investigate dark secrets on the streets of Amsterdam. This latest deal follows Tohokushinsha’s recently announced acquisition of three-part drama Mrs Wilson from all3media international.
Fleabag, Liar and Baptiste are all produced by Two Brothers Pictures – an all3media group producer - in association with all3media international.
Commenting on the deals, all3media international Asia Pacific sales manager Kit Yow said: “I’m very pleased to confirm these new deals in Japan for our primetime scripted titles from Two Brothers Pictures. Fleabag – and Phoebe Waller-Bridge – have taken the world by storm and I’m excited to see this uniquely hilarious yet heart-breaking comedy launching in Japan, alongside intriguing drama thrillers Liar and Baptiste. Our ongoing partnerships with key broadcasters in Asia and collaborations with renowned producers such as Two Brothers Pictures ensure that we can continue to deliver the absolute best in international content throughout the region.”
Two Brothers Pictures executive producer Sarah Hammond added: “To see three of our shows, Baptiste, Liar and Fleabag, travel to Japan through all3media international, for the first time is fantastic. We strive to tell stories that are universally compelling and resonate with viewers all over the world, so it’s wonderful to see that these very different series are getting the chance to do just that.”
