Marking the first English-language version of the renowned gameshow in the country, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has forged a partnership with Fremantle for a local Canadian version of game shows, Family Feud.
Family Feud 4Nov2019
Family Feud is one of the longest-running game shows on television and was first introduced in the US in 1976. Since then Fremantle has gone on to place show in over 70 international markets to date including the UK, Australia, France, India, Indonesia, and the US. Most recently, Fremantle announced that local versions of the widely popular game show will soon be launching in South Africa and Ghana.

The 60 x 30’ Family Feud Canada will be hosted by actor and comedian Gerry Dee (Mr. D) and is set to launch on CBC and the CBC Gem streaming service in December, airing four evenings a week. Fremantle will hold the distribution rights to the series. The programme will showcase families as they compete to guess the most popular answers to family-friendly survey questions from a sample of Canadians.

Commenting on the commission, Michela Di Mondo, SVP, Canada, International, Fremantle, said: “We’re incredibly excited to introduce a local version of Family Feud into Canada with our fantastic partners at CBC. The format has been a huge global hit for many years, and we are thrilled families across Canada have a chance to participate. We look forward to watching all the laugh-out-loud moments this winter.”

“Family Feud Canada will build on the success of Fremantle’s popular format by offering an opportunity for audiences to connect and celebrate with families from all across Canada,” added CBC general manager, programming Sally Catto. “We are looking forward to reflecting our country’s diverse range of experiences and perspectives with this fun glimpse into the lives of Canadians four nights a week.”

Family Feud Canada is produced by Zone3 and based on the Fremantle format, in association with CBC. Isabelle Roy and Jeffrey Wraight are executive producers; co-executive producer is Tracie Tighe. Jennifer Dettman is executive director, unscripted content and Michelle McCree is executive in charge of production. Fremantle will distribute the series globally.
