As it goes to Europe’s premium content event, Viacom International Studios (VIS) is placing the emphasis on online and has signed a number of brand-new VOD content sales deals for its Awesomeness business.

ZacAndMia 8Oct2019In the UK, the BBC has picked up seasons one and two of Emmy Award-winning series Zac and Mia (pictured) . Acquired through BBC Children, the show, which targets older children, will be available exclusively via the BBC iPlayer while free-to-air service 4Music, has licensed the first three seasons of teen drama Guidance and romance series Confess.

In continental Europe, RTL’s SVOD service, Videoland, has licensed Emmy nominated Light as a Feather, starring Peyton List along with Guidance, Freakish and the teen sitcom My Dead Ex. Guidance is also going to Hungary where it will broadcast on free-to-air TV channel MTVA alongside the first three seasons of psychological thriller T@gged starring Noah Centineo. Both titles have also been acquired by Austrian channel A1 for its pay-TV and SVOD services, in addition to horror and supernatural shows Freakish and Light as a Feather.

South African SVOD service, Showmax, has acquired teen comedy All Night, starring Nickelodeon alumni Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs), comedy Foursome, Guidance and Love Daily, while Canadian SVOD platform SRC has licensed seasons one and two of Light as a Feather.

Following the successful launch of Light as a Feather featuring Peyton List at MIPTV, VIS will be debuting GenZ thriller The Unsettling together with MTV’s hit rating reality show, The Hills: New Beginnings – recently renewed for a second series – at MIPCOM.

“In the last year we have experienced a significant increase in demand for GenZ content from clients, particularly owners of streaming platforms focused on securing the best high-quality content to attract younger demos,” said Lauren Marriott, vice president, international content sales, VIS, commenting on the deal. “As the media landscape continues to shift in this highly competitive and disruptive on-demand TV market, VIS is well placed to deliver through its strong slate of youth-focused titles from both our Awesomeness and MTV catalogues.”
