In a clear indication of the future of India’s TV and entertainment markets, the country’s leading satellite operator Dish TV India has announced a collaboration with Amazon Prime Video to pre-load the SVOD service’s app on its soon-to-be-launched hybrid set-top box.

dish amazon india 8Oct2019With launch of the new STB, DishTV India intends to bring together linear programming and online streaming content together in what it claims will be a seamless fashion, no less than ‘transforming’ the TV viewing experience.

The deal will see the operator’s Dish TV and d2h subscribers able to access with a single device the Amazon Prime Video app on their TVs offering the latest and exclusive blockbuster Hollywood, Bollywood and Indian regional movies, top TV shows, stand-up comedies and kids programmes including critically-acclaimed Indian and global Amazon Originals.

“We, at Dish TV, always work on offering innovative entertainment solutions and superlative experience to customers and the association with Amazon Prime Video is a step in the same direction,” remarked Anil Dua, executive director and group CEO of Dish TV India. “We are delighted to have Amazon Prime Video on board with us to offer its premium content on both our Dish TV and d2h platforms with our hybrid set-top boxes that are going to be launched soon.”

The move is an evolution of Dish TV’s device strategy which has seen it introduce the SMRT Stick and Magic Stick, allowing users to stream content from OTT services through Dish TV as well as d2h set-top boxes respectively. Additionally, focusing on premium short-format content, the company launched in April 2019 its own OTT platform, Watcho.
