Nascent Swedish artificial intelligence-based advanced content discovery platform provider Vionlabs is eyeing up business across the Atlantic with the appointment of Kevin Odden to lead its commercial operations in the Americas.

The Vionlabs’ platform claims to provide a step-change in content discovery with its AI platform creating a unique fingerprint for each piece of video content, formed from its own first party and leading third party data. Vionlabs’ data is formed in part by a technology that maps emotional intelligence information between content assets, whether current or catalogue, and also individual scenes. The intended result is a reduction in the time consumers spend searching for content, reduce churn and improvements in key business metrics. It is also designed to provide operators with the power to discover new relevance in catalogue content that a consumer would often overlook.

As part of the sales ramp up, Odden becomes president of Americas sales. He is a specialist in digital media and emerging markets and brings over eight years’ experience at the forefront of streamed content delivery in the Americas, having previously led commercial activity for CDN provider Limelight Networks. “Vionlabs is pushing the boundaries of what is possible in content discovery,” he remarked. “Its platform solves an issue that has frustrated viewers for years and the benefits to operators across the Americas are clear.”

In addition to appointing Odden, the company is also expanding its advisory board with the appointments of Anette Schaefer and Hanno Basse. Schaefer is an advisor to European telecom and media companies and founded BIG Picture, which has provided industry analysis and research since 2009. She previously led Deutsche Telekom’s TV business. Basse boasts a wealth of experience in tech with the likes of ProSiebenSat.1 Media in Germany and DIRECTV and 20th Century Fox Film Corp. in the US. He is currently president, decentralised media infrastructure at video app developer Live Planet.

Commenting on the three appointments, Vionlabs CEO Marcus Bergström said: “I am hugely excited to welcome Kevin, Anette and Hanno to the Vionlabs team and the combined experience they bring is a huge asset to the company. I am delighted that they have chosen Vionlabs and this is testament to the fact that our content discovery platform offers a true step-change for the industry and offers substantial new market opportunities.”
