Aiming to secure delivery of premium content on part of the operator’s new converged digital entertainment platform, and in a further Asian deployment of the protection technology, India’s largest telecommunications service provider, Bharti Airtel has selected Irdeto to securely deliver content on its new Airtel Xstream 4K Hybrid Box, powered by Android.

Part of Airtel’s converged Airtel Xstream platform, the new STB is based on Android 9.0 and brings satellite TV and OTT content together on a single device. It offers more than 500 TV channels and the Airtel Xstream app pre-installed, as well as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and YouTube. It also boasts Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and built-in Chromecast.

The selection of Irdeto Cloaked CA to protect the content follows an initial partnership in 2018 for Irdeto to secure all content offered on Airtel’s Digital TV services.

“In today’s fast-moving pay-TV market, operators need to provide a first-class user experience, while ensuring that all of the great premium content they offer is
delivered with optimal security,” said Doug Lowther, CEO, Irdeto. “Airtel has demonstrated real innovation with its Xstream converged platform and set-top box, ensuring a seamless experience across all devices.”

Airtel Digital TV CEO Sunil Taldar added: “Irdeto has already proven itself a strong security partner for Airtel, making it the perfect choice to secure the innovative new Airtel Xstream set-top box. We are continuing to demonstrate our focus on the greatest experience and choice for our customers and security is a crucial part of this.”
