Further pursuing its global expansion strategy, Smithsonian Networks has made Smithsonian Channel programming now available for purchase and download from the Apple TV app in the UK.

The move will see a number of series and documentaries now available for purchase including Aerial Britain, Season 1; Air Warriors, Seasons 1-5; America in Colour, Seasons 1-2; America’s Hidden Stories, Season 1; First Ladies Revealed, Season 1; The Pacific War in Colour, Season 1; Adolf Island; Million Dollar American Princesses: Meghan Markle; Smithsonian Time Capsule: Beyond Stonewall and United States of Drinking. 

Shows that will be available for purchase the day after they premiere on the network in August include: Apollo’s Moon Shot, Season 1; Aerial Africa, Season 1; Atomic Age Declassified, Season 1; Bird vs. Plane: Miracle on the Hudson; The Real Mad Men of Advertising, Season 1; Air Warriors, Season 6; Drinks, Crime and Prohibition, Season 1; Aerial Cities, Season 1; The Lost Tapes, Season 1.

“We are thrilled to expand Smithsonian Networks’ global footprint through the Apple TV app,” said Joseph Giraldi, EVP marketing, digital media and product strategy for Smithsonian Networks. “Now, viewers in the UK will be able to purchase Smithsonian Channel’s wide breadth of content available in the Apple TV app and enjoy it anytime and anywhere.”

The Smithsonian linear channel launched in the UK in February 2019,  providing British and Irish viewers access to Smithsonian programming including Mystic Britain, Adolf Island, Apollo’s Moon Shot, Aerial Britain and the Pacific War In Colour. Since May, viewers have been able to subscribe to Smithsonian Channel Plus through Apple TV channels to the library of documentaries and series online or enjoy offline downloads in the Apple TV app. The Apple TV app — available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and select Samsung smart TVs — and will come to the Mac ecosystem in Autumn 2019.
