Underlying the growing popularity of Spanish football for sports fans in the country, the Copa Del Rey semi-final clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid on the afternoon of 6 February netted beIN SPORTS 820,000 total US viewers (P2+) according to Nielsen data.

The cup El Clásico ran live at 2:55 PM ET / 11:55 AM PT on beIN SPORTS, beIN SPORTS en Español and streaming on beIN SPORTS CONNECT. The game was the first of three El Clásico games in the space of a month with the return leg at Santiago Bernabéu to be shown on 27 February followed by a top of the table LaLiga fixture on 2 March.

beIN SPORTS says that the Copa Del Rey game was the most-watched programme among Spanish-language sports cable networks among all key demos. It added that beIN SPORTS en Español ranked leader among Hispanic persons 2+, based on average audience, beating all programming among S-L sports cable networks.

It quoted Nielsen data as showing that for the core beIN SPORTS channel the match reached 235,000 total viewers in its premier, increasing its audience levels by triple-digit margins (+342%) compared with the network’s 2:30pm to 5:00pm time slot in the previous six Wednesdays among Persons aged over two. On beIN SPORTS en Español the match reached 585,000 total viewers in its premier boosting its audience levels by triple-digit margins (+333%) versus the network’s 2:30pm to 5:00pm time slot in prior 6 Wednesdays among Persons 2+.
