In the latest European take up for the reality-fitness format, UK-based distribution and rights-management specialist Magnify Media has inked a deal with German super indie Constantin Entertainment for Kite Entertainment’s Fittest Family.

fittestFamiliy 7Feb2019An RTÉ Ireland original commission, the format sees 12 families compete in a series of physical tests and challenges to win the coveted title of Fittest Family, along with a life-changing cash prize. Four local sports legends mentor the contestants to help them achieve their personal best. The focus is on promoting family values and the concept of working together to achieve a goal, while also having fun and keeping fit. The programme was originally devised and produced by James Sexton and Davy Fitzgerald in association with Ireland’s Kite Entertainment and Animo TV for RTÉ One, where it finished its sixth season in December.

The agreement with Constantin was brokered by Magnify Media’s Cecilia Ingebrigtsen, format sales manager for Germany and the Nordics and Constantin has also secured a commission from German media powerhouse ProSiebenSat.1 for a 4 x 90 mins German version of the format, which will launch in a primetime slot this Spring.

After holding the rights to Fittest Family since 2017, Magnify Media has sold the format through new distribution outfit Maluc Entertainment to Chilean network Chilevisión owned by Turner Latin America. RTL Croatia along with Planet TV in Slovenia commissioned a first season of the show and has also optioned the rights to the Balkan region. Fittest Family has also been optioned in a string of other European territories, including Spain by iZen, Sweden by Jarowskij and the Benelux by Sputnik TV.

“I don’t think many people would dispute the prestige associated with breaking a new format in a major market like Germany and in the hands of Constantin, we have very high hopes for this version,” said Magnify Media CEO Andrea Jackson. “Fittest Family has a positive social purpose at its core with adaptable content for every platform – this is a great format for any distributor to have on its books."
