Airing on SIC, Portugal’s second largest commercial free-to-air broadcaster, the 8 x 90’ local series will be entitled Lip Sync Portugal Playback Total and will have a primetime slot on the eponymous flagship channel. Endemol Shine Iberia will produce with the first episode to be a live broadcast on Sunday 13 January.

The Portuguese-adapted episodes of Lip Sync Battle will aim to tap into the recent success of the US and UK versions of the show, which were acquired by SIC and aired on their pay-TV channel SIC CARAS.

The new commission brings the total number of commissions of Lip Sync Battle globally to 23. In Asia, Lip Sync Battle Thailand has been renewed for a second season. The 13 x 60-minute series will again be produced by Motion Content Group and GMM TV for GMM 25 channel and is set to debut in April 2019. The commission follows on from the success of the first season in Thailand, which aired on One HD in 2017, substantially the channel’s slot average in the key demographic of 15-35s.

“Few shiny floor formats connect with audiences around the world as consistently as Lip Sync Battle has and it’s testament to the show’s enduring success and adaptability that Endemol Shine and SIC have chosen to partner with us on a Portuguese version,” commented VIS head of formats Laura Burrell. “We’re thrilled to be working with Endemol Shine Iberia on Viacom’s first-ever format commission in Portugal and are confident that Portuguese audiences are going to love this local version of the smash hit even more than the original US series.”

Show executive producer Helder Marques added: “We are extremely excited to bring this iconic format to Portugal. It is not a coincidence that it has been successfully adapted in more than 20 territories. I believe that our viewers will be surprised with the high level of improvisation and performance skills of our celebrity guests.”
