Broadcasters of free-to-air and pay satellite channels have been invited to bid in an auction of 58 channel slots by Indian multi system operator (MSO) Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV (TACTV).

tamilnadu arasu cable tv corporation 9 Jan 19The corporation said it will auction logistical channel numbers (LCN) to free-to-air as well as pay channels in lieu of a placement fee for digital transmission across the state of Tamil Nadu.

TACTV has allocated the top 11 LCNs for general entertainment and home shopping channels, while six LCNs have each been reserved for movie and children’s channels. Music, sports and infotainment channels will account for five LCNs each.

Tamil channels in different genres will account for a total of 30 slots. Another 14 slots have been reserved for news, entertainment and movie channels in English and Hindi. The remaining five slots are for Tamil religious channels.

Interested broadcasters must have a valid uplink and down link license to operate the satellite channel in Tamil Nadu issued by Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India.

The LCN will be awarded to the highest quoted price in the auction, according to the tender notice. The monthly placement fee will be based on the number of all active set-top boxes, irrespective of channel subscription, in TACTV’s network on the 20th day of previous month.

Successful bidders who pay the necessary security deposit will be offered one-year contracts by the MSO, which serves around 3 million cable subscribers  in Tamil Nadu.
