Veteran broadcast journalist Nabil Khatib has been appointed general manager of MBC’s Arabic news channel Al Arabiya, as a new board is announced to ensure the Middle East TV station's editorial integrity.

Al Arabiya 1 Jan 2019The editorial board, which will also oversee Al Arabiya’s sister news channel Al Hadath, is headed by AbdulRahman Alrashed. Mazen Turki Al-Sudairi, Ali Hedeithy, Salman Al-Dossary and Faisal J. Abbas will also serve as editorial advisors.

Alrashed was general manager of Al Arabiya for ten years until 2014, while Abbas is the former editor-in-chief of the channel’s website Al Arabiya English.

“The main objective behind the establishment of the editorial board is to provide both channels with the best available human capital and expertise, while noting that it enjoys the kind of independence that’s necessary to secure the highest levels of professionalism, editorial integrity and credibility,” said Waleed Al-Ibrahim, chairman, MBC Group.

The editorial board will support the management of Al Arabiya and Al Hadath while helping streamline the business, across multi-platforms and touchpoints.

Dr Nabil, who succeeds Turki Al-Dakhil as general manager, spent 13 years at Al Arabiya.

Welcoming him back ‘to the family’, Waleed Al-Ibrahim said: “I’d like to praise his academic accomplishments, skill-set and proven track-record. His appointment falls in line with the on-going commitment to propel Al Arabiya and Al Hadath to new heights – thus benchmarking with international standards”.

As well as experience in broadcast journalism, Nabil Khatib has an academic record in teaching and training students and professionals in journalism, mass media and communication.
