On the eve of its theatrical release, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s documentary on Barcelona football club, Take The Ball, Pass The Ball is already a viral hit over various social media platforms.
Based on the award-winning book Barça: The Making Of The Greatest Team In The World written by Spain-based Scottish football journalist, broadcaster and author Graham Hunter, the 107-minute documentary features legendary footballers such as Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernández , Andres Iniesta, Gerard Piqué, Carles Puyol, Victor Valdés, Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano, Dani Alves, Eric Abidal, Samuel Eto’o, Fabio Capello, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Thierry Henry.
For four years under manager Pep Guardiola, Barça produced what many believe were the greatest football in history, seducing fans around the world. In this first-hand account of events between 2008 and 2012 the players reveal the tension of the bitter rivalry between Guardiola and José Mourinho, manager of Internazionale and subsequently Real Madrid; Abidal's fight back from cancer to lift the European Cup; and the journey of Messi, arguably the finest footballer in his generation.
Data released by the film’s agent, independent international production and distribution company Rooftop Content Group, has shown that within days of release, the film’s trailer garnered over 3.145 million social media viewers, over 127 million Google results and in excess of 125 articles.
Take The Ball Pass The Ball is directed by Duncan McMath and produced by Barcelona based Zoom Sport International, a creative video production house specialising in high-end and original sports content. At MIPCOM 2018, Rooftop announced distribution deals for the film with leading US Hispanic broadcaster Telemundo for Spanish speaking USA, Studiocanal Germany for German speaking Europe and Japanese marketing company Fieldworks Inc.
