Indian media giant Zee Entertainment Enterprises has announced a 24.5% rise in company revenues year-on-year to INR INR19,759 million in the quarter ending September 2018.

ZEEL Punit Goenka MD CEO ZEEL 11Oct2018While the group’s operational performance exceeded analysts’ expectations, ZEEL announced a 38% fall year-on-year on net profit to INR3.86 billion in the quarter. The company had reported an exceptional gain of INR1.346 billion in the same quarter the year before, due to sale of its sports broadcast business.
Total advertising revenue for the July to September quarter was INR12,106 million, growing 22.7% year-on-year. Of this, ZEEL’s domestic advertising revenue accounted for INR11,526 million (a growth of 23.3% year-on-year) and international revenue was INR580 million.

Subscription revenue for the quarter stood at INR6,082 million – a rise of 21.3% year-on-year. Of this, INR5,093 million was collected from domestic customers (up 26% on the same period in 2017).

ZEEL’s over-the-top (OTT) platform ZEE5 had 41.3 million monthly active users as of September 2018, a growth of 190% since April 2018.
Since its launch in February 2018, the digital platform has released 29 originals.

ZEE5 users currently spend an average of 31 minutes a day on the platform, and video views have grown 340% since April, the company said.

“ZEE5 is the fastest growing entertainment platform in the country. In a little over six months, it has become the second most popular OTT platform,” said Punit Goenka (pictured), MD and CEO, ZEEL. Chairman Subhash Chandra said: “In a short time ZEE5 has received an overwhelming response and I am confident that the platform will continue to scale-up going forward”.
