After spending the last eighteen months or so getting together a viable video proposition, the Snap social media platform has now made a step change with Snap Originals.

The slate comprises exclusive shows created by people who the company calls some of the world's greatest storytellers, with new episodes released on a daily basis. Snap Originals will also feature new Show Portals, letting users swipe up and step inside a scene from a Show to experience it for themselves. Snap Originals will also have lenses, filters and other ways for users to share the show experience with friends.

The first slate of Snap Originals includes Co-Ed, a new comedy from the Duplass Brothers; Class of Lies, a mystery thriller from one of the minds behind Riverdale; and Endless Summer, a docuseries following rising stars in Laguna Beach — from Bunim/Murray, the creators of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

The social media company has already enjoyed success with content partners over the last year. In February 2017 it debuted the Shows feature as a home for long-form content in vertical format, including repurposed programming like the Voice. In October of that year, Discovery Communications' subsidiary Eurosport entered into a strategic advertising and content agreement with Snap to reach younger and more engaged fans for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang.
