As it grows its multi-lingual sports business, Star India is to open on 15 September a new channel offering audio feeds in local Indian languages .


Star Sports 3 will begin its local language coverage with the Indian Super League (ISL) in Hindi, and will also offer a Kannada feed for Karnataka, Malayalam in Kerala, Telugu in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Marathi for Maharashtra and Goa.
The 21st Century Fox-owned broadcaster said more languages would be considered in the future.
Star India has approval from the ministry of information and broadcasting to launch Star Sports 3. It will air instead of Channel V, which will go off air in India on 14 September.
“India’s appetite for sports beyond cricket is growing and viewers are expecting good quality broadcast of a wide range of sports. To cater to this need, we are launching a new channel Star Sports 3, and to begin with, we will broadcast the Hero ISL Season 5 in Hindi,” said Star Sports CEO Gautam Thakar.
“In line with our commitment of fostering a multi-sports culture in the country, we have grown our sports portfolio and its offerings and we will continue to actively invest in it.”
