RTL subsidiary CBC, one of the leading TV production and broadcast companies in Germany has deployed Bitmovin’s HTML5 web player and SDKs across multiple web, mobile and online platforms of its parent company.

CBC 30JUly2018As is looks to increase the reach of content beyond TV screens, CBC had a need to reduce the time-consuming custom development for each web browser as well as Android and Apple devices. It needed to offer custom user interfaces with digital rights management support for premium, encrypted content. CBC also had the requirement of full-feature advertising support so that it could place targeted commercials in all over-the-top (OTT) products.

Based on an API approach, Bitmovin’s Player supports the delivery of multiscreen video, addressing device compatibility, platform updates, new streaming formats and codecs, DRM protection, full-feature advertising. It also has SDKs for Android, iOS, tvOS, smart TVs and desktop apps.

“Today’s consumers want to watch content not only on TV screens but also on mobile devices. We needed a solution that enables us to deliver a broadcast quality of experience for premium content and commercials, without compromising on content protection features,” said Andreas Schmeiler, head of software development, online services at CBC. “Bitmovin’s feature-rich player provides the backbone to our custom video players, and saves us from major investment into building our own solutions.”
