Thailand’s TrueVisions has begun 4K broadcasts, with its ongoing coverage of the FIFA World Cup in ultra HD marking a first across the ASEAN.

FIFA World Cup Russia 2018 logo 25 June 2018The pay-TV operator has dedicated its channel 400 to 4K coverage of the football tournament in Russia, at a refresh rate of 50Hz.

Current subscribers of Gold and Platinum packages are now eligible to receive a 4K set-top box from TrueVisions following a THB 2,000 installation fee, and THB 1,000 deposit for the box. A TV that supports 4K 50Hz resolution is also required.

Before the start of the tournament, between 15,000 and 20,000 4K set-top boxes were ordered for TrueVisions new service.

“This is the first step for TrueVisions to broadcast through the 4K Ultra HD system, offering a picture four times clearer than existing HD systems and 20 times clearer than existing standard systems,” said Sueksith Cholasuek, marketing director, TrueVisions Group.
Channel 400 will continue to offer sports and documentaries in 4K once the Word Cup comes to an end in mid-July, the cable operator said.

Many TV manufacturers are working hard to collaborate with domestic content providers to produce 4K content, pushing Thailand's broadcasting industry to the next stage, Cholasuek told The Nation.
