In a move that it says opens a new chapter of smart TV for the company, Sony Europe has enabled a select number of its 4K HDR TVs with Android TV with the Google Assistant built in.

sony googleassistant 20June2018The Google Assistant, says Sony, will turn a compatible television with Android TV into a complete entertainment-cum-smart home hub. Coupled with Sony’s voice operated remote, the Google Assistant will allow access to films, music and other content, as well as control over smart home devices and information search.

Users can make voice commands to watch a film or TV series on Google Play and other popular services. By saying ‘play Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on Google Play’ users can launch the app. The Google Assistant on Sony Android TVs also helps to find films, check the scores and check casts.

The Google Assistant will begin to roll out across a selection of Sony televisions in the UK, with completion on all compatible models expected in June 2018. Additionally, later this year, The Google Assistant will launch in France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
