A new original Raj & DK directed Indian series called The Family Man is set to debut in 2019 on Amazon Prime Video, the US retail giant has announced.

amazon FamilyMan 13June2018Described as an edgy drama-action series, The Family Man centres on a middle class man who works for a special cell of the National Intelligence Agency. It marks the digital debut of two-time National Film Award winning actor, Manoj Bajpayee, along with National Film Award recipient, Priyamani.

The pan-Indian cast also includes Sharib Hashmi, Neeraj Madhav, Sharad Kelkar, Sunny Hinduja, and Shreya Dhanwantary.

Amazon has become synonymous with producing high quality originals around the world, and have a different approach to bringing stories to life. We are thrilled to collaborate with them on The Family Man. It is an edgy drama-action series with a touch of wry humour, drawing from real incidents, which we Indian and global audiences will love.”

Raj & DK’s production company D2R Films will produce the series, which will launch in India and around the world in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu next year.

“There is a lot of content out there for people to watch, so it becomes essential for us to not only make our series sincerely and sensitively but also to tell a unique story - something that concerns the common man and his uncommon life with his extra-ordinary struggle,” said actor Manoj Bajpayee.

“The Family Man tells an important story that pays tribute to the everyday heroes whose sacrifices go unsung.”

The US subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) platform recently launched its latest Indian comedy series Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare, created by and starring comedian Zakir Khan. Amazon Prime Video has also acquired the rights to stream this year’s biggest Telugu blockbuster, Rangasthalam.
