Research from Dataxis is forecasting that pay-TV in Latin America will reach 79.3 million households by 2023.

According to the firm’s report, the regional market will add 8.5 million new pay-TV subscribers and penetration will not exceed 40% of TV homes.

The analyst Carlos Blanco highlights several factors for such conservative growth trend, namely: the economic instability of the region, certain countries of great volume having reached a saturation point and the down fall of Brazil, which once was the region’s locomotive.

“However, this stagnation situation is not verified in other services. For example, fixed broadband did not stop its march and in 2017 it already outpaced pay-TV,” continued the analyst.

According to the Dataxis report, Mexico will hold 28.9% of the region’s pay-TV customers by 2023 and will continue to be the largest market in Latin America, while Brazil will be very close with 28.2%.

Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru will accumulate 26.5% of the pay-TV subs base, and Central America, Bolivia and Paraguay will be the fastest growing markets due to their low rates of service penetration.
