Capacity equivalent to 5,500 hours of high definition transmissions has been booked with leading satellite operator Eutelsat by TV channels and service providers ahead of the 2018 World Cup which kicks off on 14 June.

eutelsat 133june2018Five satellites — EUTELSAT 7A, EUTELSAT 10A, EUTELSAT 16A, EUTELSAT 33E and EUTELSAT 36B — are being mobilised to broadcast football matches across Europe, Russia and the capacity will see use in uplinking signals from 11 cities across Russia during the month-long event.

Given the scope of the reach, and the demand from the global audience, Eutelsat says that the World Cup showcases the essential role satellite plays in providing global coverage, particularly in key international sporting events.
