After adding 350,000 pay-TV homes over the last 12 months, Telefónica now controls over 70% of Peru’s pay-TV market.

peru 13 june 2018The figures published by the Organismo Supervisor de la Inversión Privada en Telecomunicaciones (Osiptel) regarding Q1 2018 have revelead that the Andean pay-TV market is on the up, growing 5.5% year-on-year.

By March 2018, Peru had 1.78 million pay-TV households, 1.3 million of which were subscribing to Telefónica’s Movistar TV, which now also integrates the figures of two companies previously listed as Telefónica Multimedia and Star Global, whose operations have been acquired by Telefónica del Perú.

AT&T’s DIRECTV is the second largest pay-TV player in the market, with a 16% share and 293,000 homes, followed by América Móvil’s Claro (11% share and 192,000 subs).

Over the last years, Peru has become Telefónica’s largest pay-TV market outside Spain. The telco has built a strong position not only as pay-TV provider , but as programmer, content producer and advertising manager.
