In a move that could see the start of a key change in how TV equipment is solid in the country, Netgem’s SoundBox HD soundbar is now available direct to consumers via and will be bundled by service providers from June.

Launched at MWC 2017, SoundBox combines the functionalities of a connected speaker with the capabilities of a TV box to create what Netgem calls a unique platform for a new generation of connected entertainment services that takes away the hassle of having different sound and video systems in the house. It integrates a voice assistant, compatible with Amazon Alexa and offers a combined video and audio experience from and on any screen, and combined with centralised management tools for service providers. Customised solutions based on SoundBox have been available to service providers to help them launch a new generation of household bundles beyond traditional triple or quad- play services.

To support this channel expansion beyond its existing B2B telco TV model, Netgem will launch this year in the UK a range of smart connected devices all offering live and on-demand content encompassing free and premium content. Described as unseen, this says Netgem offers an immersive TV user experience combined with a high quality sound speaker, giving viewers access to music and video content directly from the home screen. Freeview live channels and catch-up coming soon after, with one year of Amazon Prime Videoincluded. This will offer thousands of hours of on-demand shows and box sets from Amazon and a range of content partners such as Hayu, Hopster and Deezer.

‘‘We are very excited to launch SoundBox HD in the UK and to showcase Netgem’s award-winning user interface where content titles are available via a ‘one-click streaming’ without crawling through each app individually, “ explained Netgem UK managing director Sylvain Thevenot. “Each category presents the latest recommended titles available [such as] kids, music, on-demand, movies and series as well as live TV. The way TV should be.’’
