Aiming to make linear and on-demand content more searchable and discoverable, Gracenote has introduced a new TV metadata and EPG solution for smart TV and streaming device manufacturers that offer live TV streaming services.

Looking also to support TV viewers who use new virtual multichannel video programming distributor (vMVPD) services, the new datasets cover help video providers optimise TV viewing experiences.

Yet despite the growing popularity of such services, Gracenote says that their viewers often face challenges searching for and finding the live news, sports and must-watch TV programming they love based on availability across different video streaming apps and on-demand libraries.

Gracenote’s new data solution is designed to make it possible for streaming services to present all available show episodes to viewers in one unified search result. With the new solution, vMVPDs are said to be able to deliver rich TV search and discovery experiences built around up-to-the minute live TV schedules and TV and movie imagery. Gracenote IDs link programming across platforms and surface TV shows and movies in unified search results that cover linear broadcast and cable as well as on-demand availability.
