Leading Greek pay-TV provider Nova has renewed its long-term carriage agreement with HBO so that the latter’s series and films will have a first pay window premiere on Novacinema channels and Nova On Demand and Nova Go services.

game of thrones 1feb2018Crucially the deal includes the 2019 showing of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones which will premiere on Novacinema channels at the same time as it is running in the US. The same simultaneous exclusive running on Novacinema in 2019 also applies for season II of the sci-fi/Western hybrid drama Westworld and the mini-series Big Little Lies.

Two new and very promising HBO series are also coming exclusively to Novacinema channels this summer: Sharp Objects, a miniseries based on Gillian Flynn’s mystery novel of the same name, and the Succession drama series starring Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong.

Nova also has the exclusive rights to HBO’s movie premieres and selected documentaries. These include Barry Levinson’s biography Paterno, starring Al Pacino, and Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451, that has been made into a movie, starring the award-winning Michael Shannon, Sofia Bοutella and Michael B. Jordan.

Additionally, there will be documentaries The King in the Wilderness and Becoming Warren Buffett plus dramas The Wizard of Lies and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. The new agreement with HBO also includes content rights for the studio’s content distribution via laptops, tablets and smartphones on a linear or SVOD/catch-up basis through Nova’s services Nova Go and Nova On Demand.

Commenting on the deal, Nova pay-TV executive director Katerina Kaskanioti said: “HBO is synonymous with the most successful television content on a global scale, we could not be happier to announce the extension of our cooperation. After all, we share our vision for offering spectacular TV content to our customers.”
