Spanish national broadcaster RTVE is continuing to gradually improve its audience figures, mostly thanks to the performanace of its news programmes and sports broadcastings.

rtve sede 21 december 2017During April, RTVE’s main channel La 1 delivered its best figures in four years, with an average 10.2% share, consolidating the signal of the public broadcaster as the third main TV option in Spain, right behind Mediaset’s Telecinco (15.2% share) and Atresmedia’s Antena 3 (12.4%).

The State-owned corporation has claimed that the gradual recovery of the viewership figures has much to do with its news programme, Telediario, which ended April as the most-watched TV news, with 2.1 million viewers and a 14.6% share on average.

In fact, RTVE has been the most trusted broadcaster for news already for 11 consecutive months, since June 2017.
But sports have also delivered strong ratings to the public broadcaster. The Copa del Rey final between FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC was La 1’s most-watched programme in April with almost seven million viewers on average and a 40.8% share.

Over 12.7 million unique viewers tuned in with the football broadcasting during the game and the network reached 8.18 million people during the show’s golden minute.

In order to gain rights to the final, RTVE outbid Mediaset with a reported offer of €3.5 million.
