Rapid TV News - HOOQ adds BBC drama to Indian SVOD service

The HOOQ digital platform has secured a range of BBC dramas including Luther, Maigret and Wolf Hall, for its video-on-demand (VOD) subscribers in India.

luther 25aprThe announcement, made at the Asia Pay-TV Operators Summit (APOS), follows the acquisition of almost 200 hours of BBC content by the Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros and SingTel-backed SVOD service.

"We have seen increasing interest in premium British dramas in India, and are very pleased to be working with HOOQ to deliver quality British drama to meet this demand. We are confident that the programmes will be well-received by HOOQ's subscribers," commented Myleeta Aga, SVP and GM of South and South East Asia, BBC Studios.

Programmes include the BBC's psychological thriller Luther, starring Idris Elba (pictured) as a brilliant but maverick cop; Maigret, a drama rendition of Georges Simenon's bestselling crime stories set in 1950s Paris and starring Rowan Atkinson; and Wolf Hall, an intimate portrait of Thomas Cromwell (Mark Rylance), the brilliant lawyer who served as chief minister to England's King Henry VIII (Damian Lewis) from 1532 to 1540.

As well as a service in India, HOOQ also operates in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.
