Indian content company Shemaroo Entertainment is set to incorporate a wholly-owned subsidiary in the US to aid its business expansion.

Shemaroo logo 12 April 2018Shemaroo both creates and aggregates content for distribution and syndication on multiple platforms, including satellite and cable TV platforms, and for in-flight entertainment. It also offers more than 40 of its own channels on YouTube. At the end of 2017, Shemaroo claimed rights to 3,585 titles across Hindi, regional and special interest content.

With the US subsidiary, the company hopes to better reach the sizeable Indian diaspora in the country. As well as the States, the company also trades with the UK, Canada, UAE, Australia, Singapore, East Europe and North Africa.

The company’s board gave approval for investment in the subsidiary, which will have a paid-up share capital of US$50,000. Equity in the company will be made by way of cash.

“We would like to inform you that the board of directors of Shemaroo Entertainment Limited at the Board meeting held on April 11, 2018, has inter-alia approved to invest in a company to be incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary at New Jersey, United States in the name of Shemaroo Media & Entertainment Inc or any other name as may be approved by the competent authorities,” Shemaroo told the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
