As yet, no satisfactory bid has been presented to Mediapro in Spain for the broadcasting of the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League during the 2020/2021 season.

champions uefa 30 may 2017Vodafone has not presented a formal bid for the TV rights, while Orange and Movistar+ have made bids way below Mediapro’s expectations.

According to the newspaper El Pais, the initial bidding period ended last week.

Mediapro and beIN Sports were selected last summer as the home for both football competitions for the next three seasons. The deal reached with UEFA confirmed that no free-to-air (FTA) network would cover the competitions during this time.

However, if no agreement is now reached, it could leave the most important European football competitions without a pay-TV partner in Spain.

The current situation sees the over-the-top (OTT) service beIN Connect as the only confirmed platform with UEFA rights, starting from the 2018/2019 season.
