TVPlayer, the live-TV streaming service provider in the UK, has appointed industry veterans Scott Kewley and Nick James as COO and CTO, respectively, while existing COO Rob Hodgkinson has moved into the role of CFO.

tvplayer 6 march 2018Kewley was formerly director, Digital Entertainment, at Virgin Media, while James was previously head, TV architecture & innovation, TalkTalk, with prior experience at Lovefilm and Sky. In their new remits, they will be tasked with multiplying the TVPlayer premium subscriber base.

The news comes as TVPlayer announces that it added more than 40,000 net customers to its ranks last quarter. The company said that it now has almost two million monthly active users in the UK, with annualised revenues increasing more than 600% year-on-year. Since being founded in 2014, TVPlayer has added over 11 million desktop users and seen over four million app downloads in the UK.

“With minimal marketing spend to date, we have built a significant audience of millennial TV viewers in the UK,” said Adam Smith, founder and CEO of TVPlayer. “We uniquely offer a complete TV replacement service, including the ability to record live TV in the cloud, at an affordable price of £5.99 a month.”

He added: “We are delighted to be able to attract executives of Scott and Nick’s calibre to enable TVPlayer to disrupt the pay TV ecosystem in the UK market. Their industry experience will be hugely valuable in helping the business double-down on its trajectory as the UK’s fastest-growing complete pay-TV service.”
