Miss Sherlock HBO Asia Yuko Takeuchi 28 Feb 2018Miss Sherlock, the first co-production from HBO Asia and Hulu in Japan, is set for a global debut on 27 April, the content providers have announced.

The eight-part HBO Original, trailed as a 'bold interpretation' of Conan Doyle's idiosyncratic detective Sherlock Holmes, is set in modern-day Tokyo, with women taking the principle roles of Holmes and his sidekick Dr Watson.

Yuko Takeuchi (Dog in a Sidecar, Flashforward) stars as Sherlock, while her crime-solving partner Dr Wato Tachibana is played by Shihori Kanjiya (Chiritotechin, Kuchizuke).

Dr Tachibana is a surgeon who recently returned from a volunteer doctors' mission in Syria, while Holmes is an investigation consultant to the police department. With the help of Sherlock's extraordinary observation and reasoning skills, they solve bizarre and difficult cases.

Other cast members include Kenichi Takito (Rhythm and Police, Hanzawa Naoki); Tomoya Nakamura (Spinning Kite, The Never-Setting Sun); Yukiyoshi Ozawa (The Forest, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders); Ryohei Otani (Gunman in Joseon, We Married As Job); and Ran Ito.

The opening episode of the series will be available for linear TV viewing on HBO or to stream on HBO Go, with new episodes arriving every Friday.
