Indian media giant Zee Entertainment Enterprises has unveiled its highly anticipated new over-the-top (OTT) video platform ZEE5, boasting both free and subscription-based content from the Indian entertainment giant.

ZEE5 logo 15 Feb 2018ZEE5 will offer original programming from Zee's network, including Indian and international films, and TV shows. The platform will also stream music, live TV, health and lifestyle content in 12 different languages, namely English, Hindi, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Gujarati, Punjabi and Odiya.

The ZEE5 app is available for Android and iOS mobile devices, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV Stick and Chromecast. It is also available to download www.zee5.com and as a Progressive Web App (PWA) to address India's internet connectivity issues.

"With the launch of ZEE5 we see ourselves catapulting into the next phase of growth," said Amit Goenka, CEO - ZEE International and Z5 Global. "Digital will play a critical role in fuelling this growth and we wanted to ensure that we had a strong offering and presence in the space. To us, ZEE5 is the platform on which this content will be readily available to the world".

In the Indian market, the company sees the platform filling a gap in having quality Indian regional language content and regional language navigation options. "Our platform will be as relevant to the urban elite as it is to the new digital audiences experiencing Internet for the first time," said Archana Anand, digital head, ZEE5.

"India's digital story is going to be fuelled by new language consumers and that's exactly who ZEE5 is for."

The platform streams content for free with advertising, as well as premium paid content. Subscription packs are available at the launch price of INR99 per month, increasing to INR150 per month at the end of the promotion period.

Zee's previous digital platform Ozee will automatically upgrade to ZEE5, however viewers using Ditto TV will need to upgrade to the company's latest OTT platform.
