In a deal that could be a true meeting of giants, Disney has inked a deal with Alibaba’s Youku subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) business to bring content to China.

frozen 13 feb 2018The partnership covers more than 1,000 episodes of Disney animated series and films, and live-action blockbusters from across its portfolio, including the Marvel Comics and Star Wars franchises. Youku will distribute the content online, via mobile and some smart TVs.

“The addition of Disney content greatly enriches the library of quality international content on Alibaba’s media and entertainment ecosystem, giving us a leading edge in foreign content distribution in China,” said Yang Weidong, president of Youku. “We look forward to further cooperation with global entertainment companies, which will help increase our penetration in the family entertainment segment and strengthen Youku’s position as a leading multiscreen entertainment and media platform in China.”
