Canal Sony has reached an exclusive agreement with FremantleMedia International to broadcast the coming season of the US talent show, American Idol.
The programme will air across Latin America following its premiere on ABC on 11 March, after 15 seasons on FOX, and a one-year break. Canal Sony was the Latin American house of American Idol between 2004 and 2016, taking the show to over 33 million homes.
The new season will be part of Canal Sony’s Sigue la Música content block, in which the network is currently broadcasting other talent shows like The Voice (US), The X Factor (UK) and America’s Got Talent.
“For over 20 years, Canal Sony has been an industry model thanks to its line-up with Hollywood blockbusters, series and music talent shows,” said TV Schultz, EVP and GM of Sony Pictures Television Networks for Latin America.
“Following the success of American Idol in the past, we are proud to be working again with Canal Sony to offer this new series to the Latin American audience,” added Sheila Aguirre, EVP, content distribution and sales at FremantleMedia International.
