Season two of HBO's Emmy award winning series Westworld will air on Foxtel in Australia on 23 April, straight from the US.

Westworld2 6Feb2018Featuring Anthony Hopkins, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden, Thandie Newton and Ed Harris, the dark drama explores the dawn of artificial consciousness and the evolution of sin.

The first episode of the highly anticipated second season will air on the Showcase channel at 11am AEST on 23 April, with a primetime repeat at 8.30pm said the pay-TV operator.

"Season one of Westworld attracted a strong audience for Showcase when it premiered in October 2016, establishing the addictive western thriller series as one of Foxtel's great cult hits for that year," Foxtel said in a statement.

Following its live broadcast, Westworld will be available to watch from Foxtel's on demand library, or streamed on demand on Foxtel Now.

Westworld series two was unveiled during the NFL Super Bowl LII on 4 February, marking the first time HBO has advertised during the American football league championship game for 20 years. The Super Bowl ad was directed by series co-creator Jonathan Nolan.

Inspired by the 1973 motion picture of the same name, written and directed by Michael Crichton, the first season of Westworld received 22 Emmy nominations.
