Zee Media's nascent English news network World Is One News (WION) has spread its reach to the Middle East, with new carriage deals in the UAE and Qatar.
WION, which launched in India at the end of 2016 with an aim to rival western-dominated global news networks, is now available on IPTV networks run by the UAE telco Etisalat and Qatar's Ooredoo."After a successful start in India, WION is gearing up to bring world-class journalism to the people of UAE and Qatar who have long been waiting for a global network from India," said Subhash Chandra, MP for Rajya Sabha, and chairman of Essel Group and ZEE.
Its entry into the Middle East follows WION's recent launch in seven sub-Saharan African nations: Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is also available in Australia on over-the-top (OTT) platform Yupp TV.
By April, Zee Media plans to unveil WION in other countries across South Asia including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. Zee Media is also planning to expand the news channel's reach to other media platforms in Australia as well as launching in New Zealand.
The channel provides 'a global view of the world with a South Asian lens', Chandra explained, when WION first launched in India.
