Spanish football competition LaLiga has launched an official page for Russian-speaking fans on the social network VKontakte (VK).

laliga vk 06 february 2018LaLiga claims to be the first foreign football league to launch on the Russian social platform, through which it will deliver video, pictures and interviews with players, as well as match overviews and competitions for Russian-speaking fans.

“Millions of VK users follow communities about their favourite Spanish football clubs, and the competition’s players have been on the list of the most talked about people in posts and comments on VK for several years. We are sure that this is only the beginning of a great partnership and our users can expect a lot of exclusive content going forward,” said Dmitry Sergeev, executive director, VK.

“LaLiga, is the most televised sports spectacle in the world, bringing joy and anguish to millions for fans week in, week out. We are fully committed to all our fans around the world and want to remain as close to them as possible,” added Javier Tebas, president, LaLiga.

According to LaLiga, one of its main goals for 2018 is to extend brand awareness among Russian-speaking football fans and to grow its fan base.

The VK page joins LaLiga’s social media properties, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Weibo, WeChat and YouTube, in which it is the leading way among other major European football competitions.
