Spain’s public broadcaster RTVE has sanctioned a €4-million project to create a Big Data service to improve personalisation, interaction and gain better user insights.
The project has been awarded to the joint venture formed by the IT solutions provider Nextret and Konodrac, which offers a software-as-a-service (Saas) Big Data platform. Over the next three years, both companies will develop the MyRTVE project, which will cover users and viewers analytics, user tracking to know which content works best with each kind of user, personalisation and the design of a recommendation tool.
Along with the development of the Big Data tools, the broadcasting corporation also intends to acquire the necessary equipment for data storage and calculation.
RTVE has experimented before with interactive TV and personalisation, mostly through its HbbTV platform Botón Rojo and its video-on-demand (VOD) service. However, it’s the first time it will deploy Big Data technology.
