Canal+ Group has launched a new 4K/Ultra HD service delivering a mixed array of content via broadcast and over-the-top (OTT) networks in France.

Canal 30 Nov 2016Content for the service is protected using the Nagra Connect content protection solution while for broadcast, the leading French pay-TV supplier will be delivering the Ultra HD channels via the SES ASTRA satellite from the 19.2 degrees East neighbourhood.

Using their existing satellite dish, all Canal+ French satellite subscribers will be able to enjoy a range of premium UHD content, including films, series, original productions and sport. Using a new UHD satellite decoder — Le Decodeur G9 set-top box (STB) which is equipped with eight satellite tuners and integrated Wi-Fi — Canal+ says users are enabvled to enjoy functionalities. These include multi-device and multi-room video consumption, improved performance and stability in user experience, the availability of live and recorded services on other devices via Wi-Fi into the home.

Nagra Connect is a single, converged CAS/DRM client that supports multiple networks, devices and use cases. It can be implemented on STBs, open devices or selected connected TVs, and includes the ability to secure streaming services such as Canal+ Group’s MyCanal to STBs. It is approved by third-party auditors and Hollywood studios for the protection of 4K/Ultra HD content.

Nagra says that it can ensure content protection as well as access control for users authorised by Canal+. “With this latest launch, [following the extension of both companies’ content protection collaboration announced in September 2017] Canal+ continues to raise the bar in pay-TV entertainment and the delivery of next generation content and services,” added Nagra SVP sales EMEA Thierry Legrand. “Nagra Connect is our flagship content protection solution for connected networks and hybrid environments and designed for the multi-network, multi-device, multi-use case reality of today’s most advanced pay-TV operators, while reducing complexity and cost.”

Our new Decodeur is the most advanced DTH box on the market with ultra-fast channel surfing and a completely redesigned user experience.
