End-to-end digital media platform provider Verizon Digital Media Services (VDMS) has announced plans to launch new points of presence (PoPs) for its Edgecast content delivery network across three continents in the first quarter of the year.

In addition to new PoPs in Mexico and South Africa, and VDMS plans to open a Super PoP in Marseilles, France in Q1 2018. VDMS regards the location as a major Internet hub for southern France, the Middle East and North Africa due to the submarine cable infrastructure that lands in the city. The new PoP will see use in attempting to meet growing customer demand, especially in major mobile-first markets like North Africa.
The moves mean that its CDN now comprises more than 125 PoPs spanning 56 countries across six continents and network capacity has now increased by more than 200%.
“In a world that’s more plugged into mobile devices than ever before, there is a critical need for digital media delivery to be secure, fast and of the highest quality – especially in fast-growing, mobile-centric markets,” commented Kyle Okamoto, chief network officer for Verizon Digital Media Services. “Through continued automation, essential network and data centre partnerships and finely tuned operations, we have exceeded expectations in scaling our network to meet today’s and tomorrow’s digital media delivery demands. We are wholly committed to continuing to invest and build out our CDN to ensure the best quality experience across gaming, application acceleration, e-commerce, media and entertainment and more.”
