Universal Electronics Inc (UEI) has been tapped for the development of a voice-enabled remote control for DISH.

hopper 11 jan 2018The advanced voice remote, manufactured by UEI, was built to enhance delivery and enable voice communication between the remote control and the DISH Hopper set-top box (STB).

The company was responsible for a range of tasks to develop the remote, including: selecting and implementing the microphone; compressing the data for efficient wireless transmission and clear data transfer; integrating a high-performance radio for optimal range; and customising tooling and acoustic testing of units.

“Voice control has advanced from being the technology of the future to being one of the hottest new technologies of the day,” said Lou Hughes, COO at UEI. “DISH is among the first in America to offer advanced voice control to their customers.”

Rob Sadler, DISH senior manager of product, added: “The remote control is a primary customer touchpoint. Making navigation and discovery effortless, delivering more customised and personalised results for a better customer entertainment experience.”
